Financial Services Regulatory Reform: Lobby for favorable implementation of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 regarding insurers, including the possible designation of insurers and asset management companies as systemically important by the Financial Stability Oversight Council.
Also, lobby for robust and effective Federal Insurance Office. Also with key trade associations, worked on regulatory strategy for the implementation of Dodd-Frank.
Department of Labor Fiduciary Duty Rulemaking: monitor and lobby against Department of Labor rulemaking that would expand the definition of "fiduciary" under ERISA. Lobby in support of legislation blocking or supplanting the Rule.
Monitor S.1086, the International Insurance Capital Standards Act.

Cascading taxes for foreign owned insurers: Advocate against measure in Congress and from the Obama Administration that would lead to imposition of an excise tax twice when insurance for reinsurance misplace from the U.S. to a foreign-company and then when the foreign company reinsures the U.S. risk.
Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act - Follow implementation of FATCA which became law in March 2010. The ACT increases reporting and withholding requirements for foreign financial firms.
Related-party reinsurance taxation: Advocate against legislation by Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA) and Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) that would prohibit offshore reinsurance affiliates of insurance companies and not required to pay U.S taxes from taking deductions for "excel reinsurance premiums" for domestic risks.
Monitor and oppose tax proposals in connection with deficit reduction negotiations developed by the super committees that would change existing tax laws and increase tax requirements for life insurance.
Tax Extenders: monitored possible extension of "tax extenders" of certain tax provision set to expire.
Monitor efforts to overhaul tax code: Lobby in support of existing law regarding retirement savings products, including inside buildup of life insurance and annuity products, and tax deferral of 401 (k) contributions.
Monitor efforts to alter tax treatment of inherited IRA's.

The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act: Follow implementation of this legislation which would create a new systemic-risk regulation for systemically-significant firms and a resolution mechanism for failing firms. This includes the designation of firms as "systemically" important financial institutions.
Follow meeting and proposed rules of the Financial Stability oversight Council (FSOC) and the establishment of the Federal Insurance Office and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Closely follow the FSOC's proposed rule to implement SEC.113 of the Dodd-Frank Act, which would establish criteria for the designation of non-bank firms as "systemically" important financial institutions (SIFI)
Mark to market accounting: follow SEC and FASB action regarding guidance and clarification of mark to market accounting.
Lobby in favor of legislation amending FSOC's SIFI designation process.
Monitor efforts of the Financial Stability Board (FSB) to designate non-bank, non-insurers as Global Systemically Important Financial Institutions. Lobby in favor of increased transparency regarding the process.

Derivatives: monitor new rules and changes of regulation for derivatives and commodity indexed funds and activity within Congress, especially in the context of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and implementation by the CFTC.
Systemic Risk: Argue that asset managers should not be designated as systemically important financial institutions under SEC113 of Dodd-Frank. Also, track international developments regarding systemic risk designation.
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau: Monitor inclusion of this new agency in H.R. 4173 the Wall Street Reform and Consumer protection Act and its implementation.
Target Date Funds: monitor possible legislation and SEC as well as Department of Labor regulatory activities.
SEC and Money Markets: Monitor proposed SEC regulations.
Mutual Funds: Advocate for the ability to defer annual capital gains taxation of dividends that are reinvested in mutual funds. Lobby in favor of making permanent rules related to investment by nonresident aliens in domestic Mutual Funds.
Fiduciary Duty: Monitor SEC's efforts to establish a uniform fiduciary duty standard of investment advisers and broker-dealers.
Monitor the DOL's efforts to change the fiduciary standard under ERISA.
Whistleblower Program: Monitor and oppose SEC Rulemaking implementing a provision in the Dodd-Frank Act that creates a new whistleblower program with the agency.
CFTC: Argue against rule that would impose position limits on commodity index mutual funds.
