H.R. 1 the Full-Year Continuing Resolution - Multiple clauses; Provides funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as funding for research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our efforts were focused on increased funding for both of these agencies, specifically at the CDCs Division of Diabetes Translation and the NIHs National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases on behalf of those who will benefit from the diabetes research and education/information programs that they provide. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for FY12 (no number yet for House bill) - Multiple clauses; Provides funding for the Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as funding for research at the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our efforts are focused on increased funding for both of these agencies, on behalf of those who will benefit from the research and education/information programs that they provide. Additionally, we are interested in the allocation of $80 million for the implementation of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP), which was enacted through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and would like to see it funded through the Public Health and Prevention Fund, also enacted in the health care reform law. H.R. 1057/S. 576, The Fitness Integrated in Teaching (FIT) Kids Act. Support entire bill. Supports physical education for public school children grades K-12. Requires schools to report on the quality and quantity of physical education offered, supports professional development opportunities for teachers and principals to promote student health, requires nutritional education and structured physical activity for students, and authorizes a study to examine the impact of health and physical activity on student achievement. The Eliminating Disparities in Prevention, Access and Care Act Support entire bill: Would expand resources at NIH, CDC, and HRSA to promote research, treatment, and education regarding diabetes in minority populations.
