Within the congressional debate over the Budget Control Act of 2011, and the subsequent deliberations of the congressional "super-committee" charged with identifying additional federal savings, advocated on behalf of several discretionary programs important to UMDNJ, such as the NIH, CDC, HRSA and provider programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, especially with regard to the GME and IME programs which are critical to the training of physicians and the caring for sicker patients. Advocated for funding levels
for several programs important to UMDNJ within the FY 2012 Consolidated Appropriations Act, including, NIH, Community Health Centers, Centers for Disease Control, Poison Control Centers program, the HRSA Health Professions Training Programs, the NIOSH Education and Research Centers which provides the UMDNJ-School of Public Health with resources to address work injuries and illnesses, and the Public Health Training Centers program which funds a program jointly administered by the UMDNJ-School of Public Health and the UMDNJ-NJ Medical School.
Worked with Senator Menendez's office to secure report language in the FY 2012 Foreign Operations Appropriations Bill recognizing the importantce of continued work and funding for HIV/AIDS vaccines research and development. Work being done at the Public Health Research Institute at UMDNJ-NJMS is an example of critical research ongoing in this area.

Advocated for Congress to consider HR 3032 which would recognize radiologists assistants as a Medicare provider. This legislation impacts the UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions.
Advocated for Congress to consider the issues that are contributing to pharmaceutical drug shortages in the nation, includiing many critical oncology-related drugs. This issue impacts The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and University Hospital.
Advocated for Congress to consider the Stillbirth and SUID Prevention, Education and Awareness Act of 2011 which would advance the prevention of stillbirths and sudden unexplained infant deaths. The UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School jointly administers the NJ SUID center with Hackensack University Hospital.
Urged Senator Lautenberg and Senator Menendez to support the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Reauthorization Act of 2011, including those components of the pending Bill providing potential funding support for the nations network of Poison Control Centers. The pending legislation would potentially impact the NJ Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES), which is located at the UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School.
Urged Congress to support the passage of the Combatting Autism Reauthorization Act of 2011. Grant funded programs which have been re-authorized under the 2011 Bill are of potential interest to the Elizabeth Boggs Center at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and to the NJMS Autism Center.

This issue was considered as part of legislation commonly referred to as the SGR Patch legislation (HR 3630). Issue impacted UMDNJ-University Hospital.
