The organization supported the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act throughout its tenure in the United States Congress. In line with that stance, contacts were made to House and Senate offices communicating support for provisions contained within the bill and asking for changes to be made that are beneficial to our members. The organization supported the final conference version of the bill.
The organization supports repeal or delay of the health insurance tax (HIT), which was put into place by the Affordable Care Act. Contact was made with offices communicating our position on the issue and encouraging members of Congress to take action to repeal the tax.

Several congressional offices reached out to our organization to visit about our priorities for the 2018 Farm Bill. Our priorities were shared with each office for their consideration as the bill is drafted. Priorities include: maintaining crop insurance, revising cotton and dairy programs, and keeping the current acreage cap on the CRP program.

Electronic Logging Device: Our organization opposes the changes to the hours of service and electronic logging rules under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The organization submitted comments to FMCSA affirming our position in support of an extension of the deadline for compliance or an exemption for agricultural producers altogether.

Expanding rural broadband is a priority of the organization. One Senate office reached out for our input on potential questions of broadband panelists at a Senate hearing. A list of three questions was provided for the Senators consideration, as well as a discussion about our broadband priorities.

A court decision in 2017 will now subject agricultural operations to reporting requirements under CERCLA and EPCRA. Our organization opposes this measure as we feel it was not the intent of these rules to cover agriculture operations. We have communicated our support for an appropriations amendment that would exclude agriculture from reporting requirements, and also have communicated with the EPA on multiple conference calls regarding the issue.
