Relevant appropriations bills include: Agriculture (Land-Grant programs); Interior/BIE (operating grants, forward funding of some programs, tech. assistance, and scholarships); Labor-HHS HEA TCU-Title III program, ABE/GED, Pell Grants, Perkins tribally controlled postsecondary career and tech. institutions program, and AI teacher training; NSF and NASA-TCU programs; and Trans.-HUD: restoring HUD-TCU construction grants program.

Continued efforts in support of S. 1998: Native Adult Education and Literacy Act, to secure competitive grants for TCUs to provide local ABE/GED programs; advancing discussions of tribal sovereignty with regard to federal funding of tribal higher education programs; Native language/culture preservation/revitalization, including amending S.1948 and HR 4214: Native Language Immersion Student Achievement Act, continued support for S. 2299 to reauthorize Native Language Programs; preliminary discussion regarding S. 1873 and its possible impact on MSIs, including TCUs.

Expanding understanding of tribal sovereignty and the Federal trust responsibility to Indian tribes and the TCUs these tribes charter. Retaining existing and fostering new federal programs to increase the capacity of TCUs. Continued conversations regarding TCUs vital role in educating/training the AI/AN workforce and achieving the national college completion goal. Working in partnership with the BIE to promote its pathways to college program in BIE schools. Ensure TCU eligibility and participation in all federally funded programs open to other IHE, especially those administered by the various states. Increased participation/funding for TCUs for Native language/culture preservation/vitalization programs.
