H.R. 4173, Wall Street Reform & Consumer Protection Act": Implementation of comprehensive financial regulatory reform, which was signed into law in July 2010.
S. 1369: Discussion around implementation of the law to provide additional flexibility to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System to establish capital standards that are properly tailored to the unique characteristics of the business of insurance.
Efforts by the DOL to implement a rulemaking that would expand the definition of fiduciary as far as investment advice with regard to ERISA plans.

COLI & DRD: Administration budget proposal to increase taxes on life insurance products and on the industry (COLI & DRD); Making visits on the Hill re general tax reform and what it might mean to the tax treatment of life insurance products and importance for retirement savings. Discussion around the Camp Tax Reform Draft bill and next steps for the tax-writing committees.
Secure Annuities for Employee Retirement Act: The legislation advocates that retirees have access to investment options, such as annuities, that can provide lifetime income. In that respect it reflects the philosophy of the current qualifying longevity annuity contract (QLAC) regulations. The SAFE Act also encourages greater use of automatic enrollment and automatic escalation of contributions in deferral-type plans. It simplifies plan testing, reporting and disclosure. It enhances the 401(k) safe harbor plan, enhances the portability of lifetime income options from employer plans to IRAs, and offers other positive retirement savings enhancements.
