The IBEW lobbied members of Congress, as well as staffers from the Senate Armed Services Cmte in our efforts to preserve the AFSSS. The Air Force notified the prime contractor on August 1, 2013, of its intent to shut the AFSSS down. This decision was based strictly on budgetary constraints, not the effectiveness of the AFSSS. The decision will adversely affect the fifty-seven IBEW members who staff the satellite receivers that comprise the AFSSS.

The IBEW is opposed to the recommendation of the U.S. Congress Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to phase-out the healthcare tax exclusion. IBEW lobbied for help with Taft Hartley Heathcare trust's problems in rule making process

The IBEW urged the Department of Energy to approve a Non-Free Trade Agreement (NFTA) export license (FE Docket No. 12-32-LNG) for Jordan Cove Energy Project. If approved, Jordan Cove plans to construct a $5.7 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility near Coos Bay, OR. Building this facility will create an average of 900 construction jobs over 42 months with permanent employment expected to be around 150 workers.

The IBEW lobbied Congress to express our displeasure with the Obama Administrations decision to include Japan in negotiations regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership Free Trade Agreement (TPP-FTA). In addition, we urged Congress to oppose a renewal of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), also known as fast track.

The IBEW lobbied congress to sign onto joint House and Senate letters asking the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) not to follow through with rulemaking on a petition the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) filed. On January 25, 2013, the NEI filed a petition with the NRC asking them to issue a regulation Changing 10 CFR73.56. The rule change would severely limit the availability of arbitration in unescorted access cases.
NEIs proposal, if accepted, would prohibit an arbitrator from reviewing the merits of a licensees decision or granting restoration of access as a remedy.

The IBEW lobbied in support of the Coal Residuals and Reuse Management Act of 2013 (H.R. 2218), bipartisan legislation that would regulate coal combustion residuals (CCRs), also known as fly ash. The legislation would establish a non-hazardous designation for CCRs, apply groundwater protection standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency, and ensure minimum federal standards for the disposal of CCRs are upheld by enforceable permits issued by the states.

The IBEW urged the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee to remove Section 842 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014 (S. 1197) from the underlying legislation. If left intact, Section 842 would add unnecessary costs and threaten the viability of defined benefit pension plans for American workers on the frontlines of our nations defense industry.

The IBEW lobbied Congress in support of a plan, developed by the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans (NCCMP), which would improve and strengthen the multiemployer defined benefit pension plan system. The plan, though not yet developed as formal legislation, consists of proposals to strengthen the current system, financial measures for deeply troubled plans, and the creation of new structures to foster innovative plan designs.
