The organization supports replacing the current federal income tax with a system that is simple, transparent, revenue-neutral and equitable. As such, we are closely monitoring discussions in the House Ways and Means Committee (i.e. "A Better Way for Tax Reform" concept paper) and Senate Finance Committee.
Death Tax Repeal Act (S. 205/HR 631): Legislation that would repeal federal estate taxes while continuing to stepped-up basis. The organization believes estate taxes should be permanently eliminated. Continuation of unlimited stepped-up basis is important to farmers and ranchers. The organization supports S. 205 and HR 631.

Regulatory Reform: This issue is a strategic priority for our organization. As such, we support the bills below:
Regulatory Accountability Act (HR 5) - This bill would amend the Administrative Procedures Act (APA) to require agencies to be more open and transparent on data used to justify a rule.
Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act (S. 21/HR 26) - Legislation that would require Congress to vote on every new major rulemaking proposed by the Executive Branch, which has an annual economic impact of $100 million or more. The organization supports S. 21 and HR 26.
The Providing Accountability Through Transparency Act (HR 77) - Legislation that would require each agency, in providing notice of a rulemaking, to include a link to 100 word plain language summary of the proposed in regulations.gov. The organization supports HR 77.
The Searching For and Cutting Regulations That Are Unnecessarily Burdensome Act of 2015 (SCRUB Act; HR 998) - Legislation that would establish a bi-partisan commission to review the Code of Federal Regulations and specify rules that should be repealed based on certain criteria. The organization supports HR 998.
Presidential Appointments: The organization supported the confirmation of EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt by cosigning a coalition letter. The organization has urged for the confirmation of former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue as Agriculture Secretary. We are monitoring other USDA appointments as well as appointments to other departments/agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Trade Negotiations: Improving market access for all U.S. agricultural commodities and products and resolving sanitary and phytosanitary trade barriers are our priorities. The organization signed a coalition letter to Missouri's U.S. Senators emphasizing the importance of trade with Canada and Mexico.

Missouri River Management: The organization is concerned about potential revisions in the Missouri River Manual that could result from the Missouri River Recovery Management Plan / Environmental Impact Statement process.

Farm Bill: The organization is preparing for the 2018 Farm Bill with the overarching goal of maintaining the farm safety net and other programs that are vital to farmers, ranchers, consumers, rural communities and the environment. We support maintaining current farm bill spending.
Veterinary Feed Directive: The organization is monitoring the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) implementation of the Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD). Farmers and ranchers have a primary interest in ensuring that all animal health products are safe and effective and remain available so that they can care for their livestock.
