16. Specific lobbying issues
Protection of home education from government regulation - meetings with Members of Congress and their staff to talk about homeschooling success and to ask Congress to "leave us alone."
Meetings with Members of Congress and staff about protecting homeschool freedom in reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, including protecting the language codified in 20 U.S.C. 7886, if Congress reauthorizes ESEA.
Discussions on HR 5, the Student Success Act, and S. 1094, the Harkin Senate ESEA reauthorization. Support of provisions in HR 5 that protect homeschoolers and defund the Common Core. Opposition to most of S. 1094 due to increasing the federal role in education, but support of S. 1094's inclusion of language that protects homeschoolers.
Opposition to the Common Core State Standards Initiative ("Common Core") due to the federal coercion on states to adopt the Common Core, and also due to the Common Core moving to nationalize education. Briefing Members of Congress and their staff about our concerns.
Work with Senators and their staff to ensure that the Senate's 2014 NDAA includes the same language that was included into the House's 2014 NDAA, HR 1960, which ensures that homeschoolers are not required to score higher on the AFQT enlistment test than their public school counterparts. Worked with Members and staff from the House and Senate on the final 2014 NDAA bill, HR 3304 which included our final language to protect homeschool graduates who enlist in the military.
Work with U.S. Department of Education's Office of Non Public Education on homeschool issues and activities.

Opposition to any attempt to ratify the U.N. Convention On the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimation Against Women.
Opposition to any attempt to ratify the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
All these treaties threaten parental rights, homeschool freedom, and US sovereignty.
Meetings with Members of House and Senate and their staff to urge them to support the Parental Rights Amendment. It was been introduced in the House as H.J.Res. 50, and we are working to introduce it in the Senate. The Amendment would preserve the right of parents to direct the education, upbringing, and care of their children.
