Worked with Senator Lautenberg's office in having report language submitted to the Senate Appropriations Committee which would
recognize the nation's 13 Regional Biocontainment Laboratories critical role in responding to a national or regional emergency
involving bio-terrorism or infectious disease. The draft report language requests the NIH to provide the Congress with recommenda-
tions that would allow the federal government to support RBL operations through a public-private partnership. Securing a federal
role in providing the Regional Biocontainment Laboratories with operating assistance is an issue of importance to the UMDNJ RBL facility in Newark and to the other RBL facilities across the country.
