H.R.1215: Immigration Oversight and Fairness Act of 2009, to reform immigration detention procedures.
Secure and Safe Detention and Asylum Act (not yet introduced in the Senate) to provide due process protections for asylum seekers and detained immigrants.
H.R.1105: Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009: Lobbied to remove S.AMDT.629 to Sec. 7093 (Kyl Amendment), providing that no funds may be used to resettle Palestinians from Gaza into the United States.
Advocated to mitigate the impact upon asylum seekers of Attorney General Mukaseys decision in Matter of Compean regarding ineffective assistance of counsel in immigration proceedings.
Fiscal Year 2010 Department of Justice Appropriations: Advocated for increased funding to the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) to hire more immigration judges and staff and expand the Legal Orientation Program.
Fiscal Year 2010 State Department/ Foreign Operations Appropriations: Advocated for Migration and Refugee Assistance (MRA) account funding, Emergency Migration and Refugee Assistance (ERMA) account funding.
