H.R. 933 (P.L. 113-6). H.J. Res. Res. 112 (P.L. 112-175). H.R. 8. American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 Multiple clauses. P.L. 112-25/S. 365, Budget Control Act. H. Con. Res. 25, Fiscal year 2014 House Budget Resolution. S. Con. Res. 8. S. 3295. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) Appropriations Act for FY13 Multiple clauses.
H.R. 933 (P.L. 113-6). Department of Defense, Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and FY 13 Full Year Continuing Appropriations Act Multiple clauses; Provides funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as funding for research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our efforts were focused on increased funding for both of these agencies, specifically at the CDCs Division of Diabetes Translation and the National Diabetes Prevention Program at the agency, and the NIHs National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases on behalf of those who will benefit from the diabetes research and education/information programs that they provide.
H.J. Res. Res. 112 (P.L. 112-175). Continuing Appropriations Act Multiple clauses; Provides funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as funding for research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our efforts were focused on increased funding for both of these agencies, specifically at the CDCs Division of Diabetes Translation and the National Diabetes Prevention Program at the agency, and the NIHs National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases on behalf of those who will benefit from the diabetes research and education/information programs that they provide.
H.R. 8. American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 Multiple clauses; averts spending reductions required by the sequestration process, reauthorizes the Special Diabetes Program for Type 1 diabetes at NIH and the Special Diabetes Program for Indians at the Indian Health Service, and expands Medicare Competitive Bidding Program Single Payment Amount (SPA) to non-mail order settings for diabetes testing supplies. Our efforts are focused on the impact of sequestration on diabetes research and prevention programs at the NIH and CDC, and provisions of the bill that reauthorized the Special Diabetes Programs.
P.L. 112-25/S. 365. Budget Control Act. The Act increased the debt ceiling and included provisions requiring substantial cuts in federal spending to achieve further reductions in the nations debt. All sectors of the federal budget will be on the table, including entitlement spending and taxes, which has an impact on programs at NIH, CDC, as well as Medicaid and Medicare.
H. Con. Res. 25, Fiscal year 2014 House Budget Resolution. Multiple clauses; establishes the budget for the United States government for fiscal year 2014 and sets forth budgetary levels for fiscal years 2015 through 2023. Oppose repeal of the Affordable Care Act and structural reforms to Medicaid and Medicare.
S. Con. Res. 8. Fiscal year 2014 Senate Budget Resolution. Multiple clauses; an original concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2014, revising the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal year 2013, and setting forth the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2015 through 2023.
S. 3295. Issues worked on the Hill not yet reflected in legislation:
Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) Appropriations Act for FY14 Multiple clauses; Provides funding for the Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as funding for research at the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our efforts are focused on increased funding for both of these agencies, on behalf of those who will benefit from the research and education/information programs that they provide. Additionally, we are interested in the allocation of $20 million for the implementation of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP).
Opposing cost-shifting, cuts to or the block granting of federal entitlement programs, specifically Medicaid and Medicare. In addition, opposing the repeal of the Medicaid maintenance of effort provision.

Health Disparities Past support for entire Eliminating Disparities in Diabetes Prevention, Access and Care Act, which would expand resources at NIH, CDC, and HRSA to promote research, treatment, and education regarding diabetes in minority populations. In 113th Congress support similar, but updated legislative proposal to reduce the burden of diabetes related disparities. Also follow the Health Equity and Accountability Act, disparities legislation likely to be introduced by the TriCouncil, for possible support.
United States Preventive Services Task Forcesupport any efforts to require the USPSTF to update its recommendation for diabetes screening including gestational diabetes screening based on new evidence. Seek support for nomination of Dr. Elbert Huang to serve on the USPSTF.
National Nutrition Standardseducate Congress about the need for strong, science-based national nutrition standards for foods sold outside of the school meal program related to USDA proposed regulation.
Special Diabetes Program educate Congress on the good work the program is doing in research and prevention and the need to reauthorize this program.
