House Amdt.561 to H.R.2500 imposes one-year prohibition of sales of air-to-ground munitions that could be used in Yemen to Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E

The BURMA Act (H.R.3190) the bill imposes sanctions, limits security assistance, authorizes assistance, and requires the establishment of various programs and strategies related to Burma (Myanmar), including the authorization of humanitarian aid for Burma, Bangladesh, and the surrounding region for various purposes, including aid for ethnic minorities targeted by Burma's military and support for voluntary resettlement of displaced persons.

The Burma Political Prisoners Act (H.R.2327) the bill directs the Department of State to assist civil society organizations in Burma (Myanmar) working to release political prisoners and prisoners of conscience. Such assistance shall include support for (1) documenting human rights violations against such prisoners, (2) raising awareness of prisoner issues, and (3) helping former prisoners resume a normal life.

The NO BAN Act (H. R. 2214/ S. 1123) This bill limits the President's authority to suspend or restrict aliens from entering the United States and terminates certain presidential actions implementing such restrictions. It also prohibits religious discrimination in various immigration-related decisions, such as whether to issue an immigrant or non-immigrant visa, with certain exceptions.

Break the Cycle of Violence Act (H.R. 4836, S. 2671) This bill authorizes new grant programs to support violence intervention initiatives. Specifically, the Bureau of Justice Assistance must award grants for coordinated violence reduction initiatives in units of local government that are disproportionately impacted by gun and group-related violence. Additionally, the National Institutes of Health must award grants for hospital-based violence intervention programs that reduce the risk of violent injury and retaliation among high-risk patients.

Directs the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to report the number of background checks conducted by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System during the month of March 2019 and during the COVID-19 public health emergency, and for other purposes. (H.R. 6453) Requires the Federal Bureau of Investigation to report comparative data on background checks conducted by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System during the public health emergency declared on January 31, 2020, relating to COVID-19 (i.e., coronavirus disease 2019), and background checks conducted during the equivalent period of 2019.

The Guaranteed Refugee Admission Ceiling Enhancement Act/GRACE Act (H.R. 2146/S.1088 bill would prevent a U.S. President from setting a Presidential Determination on Refugee Admissions at a level below 95,000 in a given fiscal year. Bill also ensures that each officer responsible for refugee admissions or resettlement treats the Presidential Determination as a goal, and mandates quarterly reports to Congress with specific oversight requirements.

The Secure and Protect Act of 2019 (S. 1494) the bill would return refugees to their countries of persecution by imposing an unduly high screening standard to block many from even applying for asylum, impose a process for Central Americans asylum seekers, requiring them to remain in countries where their lives are at risk to seek resettlement, bar refugees from asylum if they do not and are not able to request asylum at a port of entry, jail families and adult asylum seekers and subject asylum seekers to rocket docket hearings.

Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019 (H. R. 8) The bill establishes new background check requirements for firearm transfers between private parties and prohibits a firearm transfer between private parties unless a licensed gun dealer, manufacturer, or importer first takes possession of the firearm to conduct a background check.

the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for FY 2020 (H.R.2500) amendment calls Congress to strengthen, clarify, and supplement transparency and oversight requirements related to U.S. lethal strikes and resulting civilian casualties.

The (H.R. 4359) Police Exercising Absolute Care With Everyone Act of 2019, would change the use of force to be a last resort, rather than a first resort, and require officers to employ de-escalation techniques. The bill would also require states who wish to get federal funding for law enforcement to enact similar legislation.

The Safe From the Start Act ((H.R. 4092, S. 4003); directs the Department of State to direct U.S. foreign assistance to address humanitarian crises in a manner that aims to prevent and respond to gender-based violence at the onset of an emergency. We have lobbied for Senate introduction and co-sponsors in House and Senate.

Savanna's Act (S. 227, H.R. 2733) directs the Justice Department to develop protocols to address missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG). This legislation is necessary to better coordinate law enforcement and build necessary data regarding MMIWG. Savannas Act has passed the Senate, but now waits for House passage. We have lobbied for House introduction and co-sponsors.

Womens Global Development and Prosperity Act (bill not yet introduced). The WGDP bill is a bi-partisan, bicameral bill that is championed by the White House to codify the WDGP Initiative, including establishing an Office of Womens Economic Equality at the State Department. The bill drafts include dangerous rollbacks on US gender definitions as well as cutting response from Gender-based violence prevention and response initiatives. We oppose this bill and have been working with both chambers to prevent introduction and mitigate harm.
