Deepwater Horizon oil spill issues; H.R.5629 Oil Spill Accountability and Protection Act of 2010 relating to liability limits under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, economic thresholds for financial responsibility, the Jones Act and the Death on the High Seas Act, and to require the Environmental Protection Agency, the United States Coast Guard, and Department of Transportation to evaluate and approve response plans submitted by operators;
H.R. 5626 Blowout Prevention Act of 2010, a bill to set new minimum standards for blowout preventers, well design and cementing; H.R. 3534 Consolidated Land, Energy and Aquatic Resources Act of 2010, a bill to reorganize Minerals Management Services (MMS), would add additional requirements to leasing, and would allow the denial of new offshore oil and gas leases to a company for up to seven years based on a specific threshold; S. 3305 Big Oil Bailout Prevention Liability Act of 2010, a bill that raises economic liability limits in the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and would modify oil spill response plans; S. 3516 Outer Continental Shelf Reform Act, a bill that codifies the reorganization of MMS, increases requirements for drilling wells, reviews for Department of Interior, financial security requirements and penalties for violations for operators of OCS; S. 3597 The Securing Health for Ocean Resources and Environment Act, a bill which impacts spill response, containment and prevention capacity; enhances federal coordination between agencies.
