16. Specific lobbying issues
H.R. 4966, H.R. 5652 Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act of 2012 - NETWORK strongly opposes these bills which would
place the burden of reducing the deficit on the backs of persons who can least afford it, we urge Congress to find savings sources
other than domestic discretionary programs - and suggests far deeper cuts in defense, rather than increases.
Priorities for a Faithful Budget - document presented to legislators -NETWORK strongly supports this approach to spending/revenue
H.R.8 - Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act of 2012 - NETWORK seriously opposes the approach of tax cuts to the wealthy as a way to say jobs will be created. History shows that is false.
NETWORK strongly urges the House and the Senate to increase revenue, and cut military spending sufficiently to cover the
costs of domestic discretionary programs without their being cut. Priority must be given to the most vulnerable populations in federal budget decisions.
H.Con.Res 34 - NETWORK strongly and vocally opposes the House passed FY2013 Budget, and any portion of it becoming
a part of other legislation, as it would destroy the social safety net dehying the meeting of needs of those on the margins
of society, struggling to survive. NETWORK is particularly concerned that Rep. Ryan justifies his destruction of the safety net by Catholic Social Teaching, as it is just the opposite.
NETWORK shared great concern about the high rates of unemployment and underemployment, particularly aware of the relationship between cuts in spending (eliminating public sector jobs) and the unemployment rate fluctuations.
H.R.15 - Middle Class Tax Cut Act - NETWORK strongly supports this approach to revenue and the support of low- and middle-income members of our communities.
Nuns on the Bus and NETWORK strongly oppose the devastating House-passed budget for 2013, as we did for FY2012 budget

International Affairs Budget - NETWORK strongly opposes additional cuts in sequestration or deficit reduction plans, on top of the 15% cuts over the last two years. H.RES.25 : Expressing the sense of the Congress that the current Federal income tax deduction for interest paid on debt secured by a first or second home should not be further restricted - NETWORK strongly supports restriction on mortgage interest deductions on second homes, boats and other recreational vehicles.
Mortgage Interest Deduction - NETEWORK supports a reduction in the size of a mortgage eligible for deduction, from $1 million to $500,000. The original intent of the MID was to give an opportunity to low-and middle-income households to purchase a first home. Most of the tax expenditure is going to the wealthiest in our nation, in violation of the intent of the program.
