H.R. 1585 - "National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008" - To authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2008 for military activities of the Department of Defense, for military construction and for defense activities of the Department of Energy, to prescribe military personnel strengths for such fiscal year and for other purposes. Lobbied members and staff of the House Armed Service committee and members and staff of the House Homeland Security committee. Title XXXV - Maritime Administration.
H.R.1605 - "Merchant Mariner Credentials Improvement Act of 2007" - To amend title 46, United States Code, to repeal requirements that applicants for merchant seamen licenses and certificates and merchant mariner's documents must take oaths, and for other purposes. Sections 1-10. Lobbied members and staff of the House Transportation and Infrastructure and House Homeland Security committee's.
S.1547 - "National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008" - An original bill to authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2008 for military activities of the Department of Defense, for military construction, and for defense activities of the Department of Energy, to prescribe military personnel strengths for such fiscal year, and for other purposes. Title XV. Lobbied members and staff of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
S.1644 - "Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2008" - Title II: Security, Enforcement, and Investigations, and Title III: Protection, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery. Researched these sections of the bill and discussed with members of the United States Coast Guard.
H.R.2830 - "Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2008" - Authorizes appropriations for FY2008 for the Coast Guard for Coast Guard operation and maintenance and for other purposes. Title III: Shipping and Navigation (Sections 301-306, 308-327 & 332), Title V: Ballast Water Treatment, Title VI: Maritime Pollution Prevention, Title VII: Port Security (All Sections), and Title XI: Marine Safety (All Sections). Lobbied members and staff of the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee.
H.R.981 - "Great Lakes Short Sea Shipping Enhancement Act of 2007" - Amends the Internal Revenue Code to exempt from the harbor maintenance tax commercial cargo (other than bulk cargo) loaded or unloaded at U.S. ports in the Great Lakes Saint Lawrence Seaway System. Defines the "Great Lakes Saint Lawrence Seaway System" as the waterway between Duluth, Minnesota and Sept. Iles, Quebec, Canada, encompassing the five Great Lakes, their connection channels, and the Saint Lawrence River. All sections. Lobbied members and staff of the House Ways and Means committee.
Met with maritime coalitions regarding issues American cabotage laws and ownership, building and crewing U.S.-flag vessels).
Maritime Security Program: Worked with other U.S. maritime labor and industry interests to secure Democratic and Republican signatures on House and Senate "Dear Colleague" letters in support of the Maritime Security Program (MSP) for FY 2008.
Met with the Maritime Administration (MARAD) and Department of Transportation (DOT) staff members on various issues concerning the membership of American Maritime Officers.P.L.-480 Program, Title XI (Shipbuilding Loan Guarantees), Ship disposal and the Maritime Security Program.
Met with the United States Coast Guard on various issues concerning the membership of American Maritime Officers, mariner licensing and medical documentation, mariner and vessel protection, piracy and Great Lakes ice-breaking.
Met with the Department of Defense (DOD) regarding the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command and contract mariner jobs.
