Human Rights Defenders Campaign/Collaboration with International Movement
Nicaragua - Throughout the past three months Americas AD ,maintained informed SFRC/HFAC members and State Department of crisis and advocated for USG recognition that the violence has been intensified by and state repression, especially after USG and Nicaragua joint resolutions ignoring government role during Organizations of American States (OAS). On July 7, 2018 State Department announced sanctions to three government officials in including National Police Commander, ' shows the United States will expose and hold accountable those responsible for the Nicaraguan governments ongoing violence and intimidation campaign against its people. " That language is a positive contrast to the OAS resolution we were very vocal against.
In rare private meeting, advocated to the President of Honduras to issue public support to work of HRDs, Attended working meeting with Honduras Minister of Human Rights, President's Chief of Staff, and Ambassador to the US.
Worked with TLHRC co-chair on getting more than 70 co-sponsors to a Dear Colleague to State Department on Colombia HRDs
Drafted and Submitted to SFRC Questions for the Congressional Record ahead of A/S Kimberley Beier nomination hearing.
