Expressed continued opposition to Representatives, Senators, and legislative staff to budget cuts to research and education programs outlined in the Administration's budget request for FY 2018.
Met with Senators, Representatives, and legislative staff to express opposition to a proposal in the President's budget for the National Institutes of Health to cap the reimbursement for facilities and administrative (indirect costs) expenses at 10 percent, and to thank them for including language in the FY18 House and Senate Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Acts blocking this proposal.
Requested Senators and Representatives to support an FY18 budget resolution with adjusted budget caps to prevent cuts or an across-the-board sequester to non-defense programs, including education and research, and to support defense basic research and medical research programs.
Requested support for/thanked Senators, Representatives, and legislative staff for supporting a "clean" continuing resolution (HR 1370) that prevents a government shutdown and provides full funding for research and education programs, and continues to block implementation of the Administration's proposal to cap F&A costs on NIH grants.

Encouraged members to strike the provision imposing an excise tax on university endowments from tax reform legislation. (The Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, HR 1)
Met with legislative staff to encourage support for the charitable deduction in tax reform proposals. (The Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, HR 1).
Expressed support for education tax credits, including the AOTC and Lifetime Learning Credit, as part of a comprehensive tax reform package. (Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, HR 1).
Met with legislators and legislative staff to express opposition to provisions in HR 1 that repealed education tax deductions, including: section 117(d) tuition credits; section 127 employer provided educational assistance; student loan interest deduction.
Met with legislators and legislative staff to express opposition to provision in HR 1 to repeal private activity bonds.
Met with legislators and legislative staff to express concern for/opposition to provisions in HR 1 to change the way Unrelated Business Income Tax is calculated.
Met with legislators and legislative staff to express concerns about provisions in HR 1 to create an excise tax on executive compensation and change the tax treatment of certain employee fringe benefits.
