FY 2021 appropriations for science research funding.
Supported funding for the National Science Foundation in FY 2021 appropriations.
Supported emergency research relief funding to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Supported the Research Investment to Spark the Economy Act (H.R. 7308/S. 4286). Introduced by Representatives Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Fred Upton (R-MI) and Senators Ed Markey (D-MA) and Thom Tillis (D-NC), the legislation would provide $26 billion in additional support for the federal research enterprise in light of COVID-19. CGS actively encouraged additional cosponsors on the legislation.
Supported the Supporting Early-Career Researchers Act (H.R. 8044). Introduced by Representatives Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) and Frank Lucas (R-OK), the legislation would provide the National Science Foundation funding to provide postdoctoral fellowships for early-career researchers whose employment prospects may have been impacted by COVID-19. CGS actively encouraged additional cosponsors on the legislation.
Urged scientific research and development provisions be included in the final FY 2021 National Defense Authorization Acts (NDAA).

Requested Congress provide additional financial support for students and institutions of higher education as COVID-19 pandemic relief.
Requested maximum flexibility in any forthcoming COVID-19 legislation to ensure post-secondary students receive maximum benefit from financial assistance.
Urged extensions to provide temporary relief for student loan borrowers, including suspension of repayment and interest accrual through administrative action and/or in any COVID-19 supplemental funding legislation.

Supporting supplemental appropriations during the COVID-19 pandemic for programs and agencies including emergency relief to students, colleges, universities, and the federal research enterprise.

Sent letters to the Department of Homeland Security requesting an extended comment period for the proposed rule "Establishing a Fixed Time Period of Admissions and Extension of Stay Procedure for Nonimmigrant Academic Students, Exchange Visitors, and Representatives of Foreign Media." CGS also submitted final comments opposing the proposed rule.
Sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security requesting Spring 2021 guidance for international students enrolled at U.S. institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Provided comments on the Department of Homeland Security Interim Final Rule entitled "Strengthening the H-1B Nonimmigrant Visa Classification Program."
Joined amicus briefs seeking preliminary injunctions for the Department of Homeland Security H-1B visa rule changes.
Urged inclusion of provisions that would allow international scientists and students to contribute to our research enterprise be included in the final FY 2021 National Defense Authorization Acts (NDAA).
