FY 2012 Agriculture Appropriations HR 2112-discuss agriculture research and cooperative extension budgets. FY 12 Commerce Justice Science Appropriations- discuss science research budget (NASA, NOAA, NSF); encourage timely resolution to budget matters. FY 12 Energy & Water Appropriations HR2354- discuss importance of Office of Science research budget; encourage timely resolution of budget matters. FY12 Interior & Environment Appropriations discuss importance of research programs at EPA, National Endowment for the Humanities. Met with Congressional staff to discuss the importance of
WRRA/WRI and NEH budget cuts asked to preserve funding. Encourage timely passage of budget.
FY12 Labor-HHS- Education Appropriations- discuss importance of federal student aid and maintaining the maximum Pell grant award. Discuss impacts of cuts to Title VI programs and pushed for restoration in FY 12 budget. Discuss importance of full funding or the National Institutes of Health, Title VII health education programs, Cures Acceleration Network, Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality. Encourage timely passage of budget. FY12 Defense Appropriations HR2219- discuss importance of basic and applied research programs and encourage a timely passage of the budget. The Budget Control Act of 2011- expressed support for the Pell grant funding increase to preserve the maximum Pell grant award. And discussed with Members and their staff the impacts of the other financial aid cuts to students. Asked that cuts to discretionary spending be carefully examined as it relates to higher education and research funding.
