The IBEW continued to lobby against the US/South Korea, Columbia and Panama Free Trade Agreements. All three trade agreements were negotiated by President Bush and will result in the loss of American jobs.

The IBEW continued to lobby for the use of and against the prohibition of project labor agreements. President Obama signed an Executive Order encouraging the use of PLAs. Since the executive order, several representatives have been working toward a ban on federal PLAs. The IBEW supports PLAs, noting that typically PLAs include accelerated dispute resolution procedures and standards regarding local workers, minorities, and apprenticeship training.

The IBEW continued to lobby in support of the "Extension of Section 420 and Retiree Life Insurance Act of 2011", legislation that would amend the Internal Revenue Code to encourage employer funding of retiree life insurance benefits. Currently, 420 allows companies with defined benefit plans funded at over 125% to use the excess funds to pay for retiree healthcare. Section 420 sunsets in 2013. This legislation that the IBEW is lobbying in support would renew 420 after it's 2013 expiration.
