Young, Jr. Social Work Reinvestment Act: the initiative attempts to address matters of recruitment/retention as it pertains to the social work profession, in addition to the establishment of a social work commission to study significant problems associated with the profession; (HR 5447/S 2858); S 588/HR 1424 "Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Parity Act" mental health insurance coverage, support bills to provide parity between health insurance coverage of mental
health benefits and benefits for medical and surgical services. S 1693 (Kennedy) "Wired for Health Care Quality Act," mental health and health privacy. Modify a bill to enhance the adoption of a nationwide interoperable health information technology system and to improve the quality and reduce the costs of health care in the United States; HR 5442 (Markey) "TRUST in Health Information Act," mental health and health privacy. To modify a bill providing individuals with access to health information, to ensure personal privacy, security, and confidentiality with respect to health related information in promoting the development of a nationwide interoperable health information infrastructure, to impose criminal and civil penalties for unauthorized use of personal health information, to provide for the enforcement of these rights, to protect States' rights, and for other purposes. Hate Crimes: the expansion of the statute to cover crimes committed on federal property, in addition to pursuing elements of the initiative that enhance federal resources for law enforcement, (HR 1585/S1105). The End Racial profiling Act: seeks to eliminate discriminatory law enforcement procedures that rely solely upon race, ethnicity, national origin or religion as criteria for investigator activities, (HR 4611/S 2481).

Higher Education Act (HR 4137 and S 1614). NASW is advocating for loan forgiveness for social workers in this bill. We have written alerts to our members on this topic and made phone calls to House and Senate members; Dorothy Height/Whitney Young Social Work Reinvestment Act (S 2858). This bill will improve the social work workforce. We have written letters to House members and made numerous phone calls to House staff.

foster Care Medicaid Coverage Act of 2007 (HR 1376). This bill will provide Medicaid for youth i8n foster care. Posted an alert on this issue on our website. HR 6893, the fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act (HR 6893). This legislation targets specific deficiencies in the child welfare system by extending federal foster case payments up to 21 years old, providing federal support for relatives caring children in foster care. Sent alerts and updates to our members on this bill.
