Federally Recognized Tribes Extension Program (FRTEP) - under the Smith Lever Act for FY17 agriculture appropriations in the post April 2017 FY17 Omnibus, UA is supporting increased funding to allow for all current funded FRTEP programs to continue operations.

Higher Education Act Reauthorization - UA supports several initiatives in this legislation which is expected in 2015/114th Congress, including support for Title VI centers, financial (Pell Grant), competency-based education programs (HR3136 in 113th).

UA called for sufficient funding support for federally-funded research through various appropriations bills and the continuing resolution, including for: FY17 Commerce Justice Science for NASA appropriations in support of Science Mission Directorate (SMD) and Space Grant (including discussions on the American Space Renaissance Act, and in particular in support of specific legislative language related to NASA space science and astrodynamics.

UA called for robust funding for defense research 6.1 funding in both the markups for National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)and defense appropriations bills, (HR 4909 and S2943) and in the Continuing Resolution, including for DARPA and other agencies that provide defense research funding available to Universities. Further discussions were held regarding the UA's Space Object Behavioral Sciences initiative related to possible legislative provisions related to the USAF's Space Traffic Monitoring function.

The University of Arizona shared concerns over pending Department of Labor regulations modifying the income level under which employees are eligible for overtime pay due to their potential large financial impact on the University. House and Senate bill numbers pending. Estimated impact on the University is over $3M annually.

HR 5836 - HEARD Act - Hunting, Education and Recreational Development Act - introduced by Rep. Paul Gosar, the UA is supportive of the concept of the proceeds of federal lands identified by the Department of Interior for sale to be provided to state governments for sharing with institutions of higher education, and for hunting and recreational purposes.
