Requesting long-term support for the National Institutes of Health due to the coronavirus pandemic
Endorsed the Endless Frontier Act (H.R. 6978/S. 3832). Introduced by Representatives Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Todd Young (R-IN), the legislation provides significant investments in the National Science Foundation with an expanded focus on new technology. Funding for additional fellowships and traineeships would support undergraduate and graduate students.
Submitted comments in response to Sen. Lamar Alexander's white paper "Preparing for the Next Pandemic." The Chairman's white paper addressed five recommendations for future preparation based on the U.S. response to COVID-19, including investments in the federal research enterprise.
Urging Senate confirmation of Dr. Sethuraman Panch Panchanathans nomination to become the Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF).

FY 2020 appropriations for Dept. of Education funding
Support for the Expanding Access to Graduate Education Act (H.R. 3334)
Support for the Dept. of Ed. Grad PLUS program
Requesting Congress provide additional financial support for students and institutions of higher education as COVID-19 pandemic relief.
Requesting liability protections for institutions of higher education as they reopen and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Requesting relief for student loan borrowers until June 30, 2021, or until the unemployment rates remain below 8 percent for three consecutive months. Among the proposals include requests to continue the zero-interest deferred payments for borrowers and the suspension of collection activities for borrowers who have defaulted on any type of federal loan provided under the CARES Act and to extend the post-graduation grace period for students leaving school.
Requested technical changes to certain provisions in the CARES Act (P.L. 116-136) to ensure postsecondary students receive maximum benefit from financial assistance including Federal Work-Study, emergency grant aid, Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, TRIO.
Endorsed the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act (H.R. 6800). The bill provides economic relief in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Submitted an amicus brief to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit regarding Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. Harvard case in support of Harvard's "holistic" admissions process.
Endorsed the Supporting Connectivity for Higher Education Students in Need Act (H.R. 6814/S. 3701). This is particularly timely given the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the use of distance education.

Submitted a letter to House Ways and Means Committee and Senate Finance Committee requesting changes to the tax code in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, including: fixes to provisions in the CARES ACT (116-136) regarding FLMA and sick leave; suspending taxability of student scholarship/grant aid; temporarily enhancing institutional debt service (advance refund tax-exempt bonds, expand debt issuance); temporarily enhance current higher education tax credits (AOTC, LLC); suspend endowment tax.
Endorsed the American Opportunity Student Tax Relief Act (H.R. 6749), introduced by Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) that would ensure emergency grants to students from the CARES Act are not taxed and makes improvements to the AOTC program.
