Presidents FY 13 Budget Proposal, Multiple clauses; Provides funding proposals for programs within the Department of Health and Human Services. We are interested in funding for the Diabetes Translation (DDT) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as funding for research at the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We are also interested in funding for the Prevention and Public Health Fund and for Medicare and Medicaid. (Lobbyists used: Tekisha Dwan Everette, Lisa Cox, Amy Wotring, and Meghan Riley).
H.Con.Res 112, FY 13 House Budget Resolution. Multiple clauses; Sets the overall mandatory and discretionary spending levels and provides. Our efforts in this regard are focused on the spending levels for non-defense discretionary spending, including overall funding for health programs. Additionally, we are interested in proposals in H.Con. Res. 112 that would repeal funding for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, proposals that would transform the Medicaid program into a block grant to states, and change the structure of the Medicare program. Issues worked on the Hill not yet reflected in legislation:
Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) Appropriations Act for FY13 Multiple clauses; Provides funding for the Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as funding for research at the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our efforts are focused on increased funding for both of these agencies, on behalf of those who will benefit from the research and education/information programs that they provide. Additionally, we are interested in the allocation of $80 million for the implementation of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) (Lobbyists used: Tekisha Dwan Everette, Lisa Cox, Meghan Riley, Amy Wotring).

H.R. 1057/S. 576, The Fitness Integrated in Teaching (FIT) Kids Act. Support entire bill. Supports physical education for public school children grades K-12. Requires schools to report on the quality and quantity of physical education offered, supports professional development opportunities for teachers and principals to promote student health, requires nutritional education and structured physical activity for students, and authorizes a study to examine the impact of health and physical activity on student achievement. The Eliminating Disparities in Diabetes Prevention, Access and Care Act Support entire bill: Would expand resources at NIH, CDC, and HRSA to promote research, treatment, and education regarding diabetes in minority populations. This legislation was amended and passed the House on September 28, 2010. Advocated for Senate consideration of House-passed H.R. 1995 during the final quarter of 2010. Special Diabetes Program The Special Diabetes Program consists of two mandatory funding streams Special Diabetes Program for type 1 and Special Diabetes Program for Indians. The funding is set to expire September 30, 2013 unless Congress acts to reauthorize the program. (Lobbyists used: Tekisha Dwan Everette, Meghan Riley, Lisa Cox, Amy Wotring).
Essential Health Benefits Sharing information on how essential health benefits for people with diabetes should be defined per our Standards of Care. (Lobbyists used: Tekisha Dwan Everette).
United States Preventive Services Task Forcesupport any efforts to require the USPSTF to update its recommendation for diabetes screening based on new evidence. (Lobbyists used: Tekisha Dwan Everette, Meghan Riley).
Premium Tax Credit Repayment oppose efforts which seek to raise the health insurance subsidy repayment cap under the Affordable Care Act for moderate-income individuals and families or eliminate it completely as a pay-for for legislation. (Lobbyist used: Amy Wotring).
