16. Specific lobbying issues
1) IREM met with HUD multifamily staff on 4/28/16 to discuss various issues regarding the federally assisted housing industry including: the FY17 budget, HUD multifamily transformation status, management and occupancy reviews, performance based contract administrators rebid process update, fair market rents, and the Family Self Sufficiency Program.
2) IREM met with the Office of Public and Indian Housing (within HUD) staff on 4/28/16 to discuss various issues regarding the federally assisted housing industry including: over income tenancy in public housing, FY16 changes to housing vouchers, recently published guidance for public housing agencies and owners of federally assisted housing and the exclusion of using arrest records and criminal background information, and the new fair housing standards and criminal backgrounds.
3) IREM met with Rural Housing Service (at Rural Development) staff on 4/28/16 to discuss various issues regarding the federally assisted housing industry including: FY17 budget, the ability to reamortize properties to retain rental assistance, and Rural Development Capital Needs Assessment (CNA) process.
4) IREM sent "thank you" letters to HUD multifamily staff as a follow-up to their 4/28/16 meeting.
5) IREM sent "thank you" letters to Rural Housing Service staff as a follow-up to their 4/28/16 meeting.
6) IREM sent "thank you" letters to Public and Indian Housing staff as a follow-up to their 4/28/16 meeting.

1) IREM staff met with Representative Peter Welch to discuss various tax policies including retaining the treatment of carried interest under capital gains, and to encourage Rep. Welch to support the Marketplace Fairness Act and similar legislation.
2) The Coalition to Extend and Improve the 179D Tax Deduction for Energy Efficient Buildings sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance Orrin Hatch, and the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Finance Ron Wyden urging their support for a multi-year extension of the section 179D tax deduction for energy efficient commercial and multifamily buildings.
