Climate Change Legislation. Met with House Energy and Commerce Committee staff to discuss their upcoming climate change legislation and how aviation fits into the bill. Discussed programs we support such as CLEEN and CAAFI and how funds should be re-directed back into aviation to invest in future technology and environmentally friendly programs instead of the funds going into a general fund.

Funding for Environmental Programs. We contacted staff on the Senate Appropriations Committee to discuss our support for funding for FAA programmatic issues we support and would benefit from funding in FY09. Specifically, we advocated for funding for CLEEN and CAAFI so that funds could be spent now to address aviation's contribution to climate change.

The Association and member companies met with OMB staff to discuss the FAA's issuance of an Order limiting unscheduled operations at JFK Airport and Newark Liberty Airport and the process issues involved with the Order.

Cargo Security. We discussed all-cargo security issues with House Homeland Security Committee staff to provide industry updates on the state of the all-cargo carrier industry. The Committee was interested in discussing issues such as technology available for screening, meeting the mandate of 50% of cargo on passenger planes screened by February 2009 and other challenges in the security area.
