Within the congressional debate over the Budget Control Act, S. 365, and the FY 2012 appropriations process: advocated on behalf of several discretionary programs important to UMDNJ, such as the NIH, HRSA and CDC, and provider programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, especially with regard to the GME and IME programs which are critical to the training of physicians and the caring for sicker patients.

Advocated for adequate funding levels for several programs important to UMDNJ within the FY2012 Labor/HHS/Education Appropriations bill (S. 1599 and un-numbered House bill). These included the National Institutes of Health, Community Health Centers, Centers for Disease Control, Poison Control Centers program, the HRSA Health Professions Training programs, and the NIOSH Eduation and Research Centers which provides the UMDNJ-School of Public Health with resources to address work
related injuries and illnesses.
Advocated for the introduction of congressional legislation, H.R. 3032, to recognize radiologist assistants as a Medicare provider. This legislation impacts the UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions.
Advocated for Congress to consider the issues that are contributing to pharmaceutical drug shortages in the nation, including many critical oncology-related drugs. This issue impacts The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and University Hospital.
Advocated for adequate funding levels for the National Cancer Institute within the FY 2012 Labor/HHS/Education appropriations bill.

Met with Congressman Rush Holt to brief him on the termination of a contract between the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Snowdon Inc, and UMDNJ because of a re-direction of the agency's mission. Solicited assistance in identifying alternative funding streams to allow the Snowdon / UMDNJ work to continue.

Solicited letter of support from Congressman Frank Pallone for Dr. Iris Udasin's nomination for membership on the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, World Trade Center Health Program Science/Technical Advisory Committee. Dr. Udasin is the chief investigator of the World Trade Center Medical Monitoring and Treatment Program in New Jersey, a part of the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Advocated Congressional support for letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, urging that the agency reevaluate their coding offset reduction proposal that was included in the draft 2012 IPPS regulation. Modeling by the NJ Hospital Association shows that NJ hospitals would be cut by $121 million in FY 2012 as a result of this change, and specific losses for University Hospital are estimated at $1.9 million.
