H.R. 3547 (P.L. 113-76), the Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2014. HJ. Res 106 (P.L. 113-73), the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2014. H.R. 2663/S. 1422, the Preventive Health Savings Act. (See next Page for specific issues descriptions)
H.R. 3547 (P.L. 113-76), the Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2014. Multiple clauses; provides funding through September 30, 2014, for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as funding for research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our efforts were focused on increased funding for both of these agencies, specifically at the CDCs Division of Diabetes Translation and the National Diabetes Prevention Program at the agency, and the NIHs National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases on behalf of those who will benefit from the diabetes research and education/information programs that they provide.
HJ. Res 106 (P.L. 113-73), the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2014. Multiple clauses; provides funding through January 18, 2014, for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as funding for research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our efforts were focused on increased funding for both of these agencies, specifically at the CDCs Division of Diabetes Translation and the National Diabetes Prevention Program at the agency, and the NIHs National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases on behalf of those who will benefit from the diabetes research and education/information programs that they provide.
H.R. 2663/S. 1422, the Preventive Health Savings Act. Support entire bill; to require the Director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), upon a request by the chairman or ranking minority member of certain congressional committees, to determine if proposed legislation would result in reductions in budget outlays in budgetary outyears through the use of preventive health and preventive health services.
Issues worked on the Hill not yet reflected in legislation:

Opposing cost-shifting, cuts to or the block granting of federal entitlement programs, specifically Medicaid and Medicare. In addition, opposing structural changes to the Medicare program including the combining of Parts A and B deductibles and imposing new co-pays for home health services.

United States Preventive Services Task Forcesupport any efforts to require the USPSTF to update its recommendation for diabetes screening including gestational diabetes screening based on new evidence. Seek support for nomination of Dr. Elbert Huang to serve on the USPSTF. Support Surgeon General nominee Vivek Murthy.
Special Diabetes Program educate Congress on the good work the program is doing in research and prevention and the need to reauthorize this program; Also support provision in the Senate Finance mark of the Sustainable Growth Rate which reauthorized the program for 5 years.
Medicare Sustainable Growth Ratesupport efforts to include Medicare Diabetes Prevention Act and the Special Diabetes Program in moving legislation.
