1. Advocated the congressional passage of legislation to advert the Fiscal Cliff, known as the American Taxpayer Relief Act (H.R.8). The legislation adverted scheduled income tax increases, and postponed until March 1, 2013 the spending reductions required by the sequestration process which if allowed to go into effect will impact many federal programs important to UMDNJ's missions, including the NIH, CDC, HRSA and many others. H.R. 8 also avoids an automatic 26.5 percent reduction in Medicare
payments to physicians by extending current Medicare payment rates through December 31, 2013.
2. While federal agency spending is level-funded through a Continuing Resolution set to expire March 31, 2013, UMDNJ continued to advocate for adequate FY 2013 appropriation levels for many programs important to the University's mnissions, in preparation for when the Congress finalizes the FY13 appropriation process. Priority programs advocated by UMDNJ include the NIH, CDC, HRSA, NSF and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration programs.

Advocated for the NJ Congressional Delegation to become members of the Congressional Academic Medicine Caucus, whose mission is to educate other congressional members on the unique health care, research and training missions of teaching hospitals and medical schools. Issues and policies advocated by the Caucus are important to the missions of UMDNJ, its consituent schools and University Hospital.

1. Advocated for Congress to consider HR 3032, which would recognize radiologists assistants as a Medicare provider. This legislation impacts the UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions. 2. Advocated for Congress to consider the issues that are contributing to pharmaceutical drug shortages in the nation, including many critical oncology-related drugs. This issue impacts The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and University Hospital.

Advocated consideration of HR 6352, the Physcian Shortage Reduction and Graduate Medical Education Accountability and Transparency Act, which increases the number of residency slots by 15 thousand over five years and S.1627, The Resident Physician Shortage Act of 2011. These bills address the nation's projected shortage of physicians.
