H.R. 719, Continuing Resolution. Multiple clauses; provides temporary FY2016 funding for the Division of Diabetes Translation and the National Diabetes Prevention Program at the CDC as well as funding for the NIDDK at the NIH through December 11, 2016.
S.1695, Senate Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) Appropriations Act for FY2016. Multiple clauses; provides funding for the Division of Diabetes Translation and the National Diabetes Prevention Program at the CDC as well as funding for the NIDDK at the NIH. Our efforts are focused on increased funding for both of these agencies. Additionally, the Association opposes the inclusion of language that would weaken the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
H.R. 3020, House Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) Appropriations Act for FY2016. Multiple clauses; provides funding for the DDT and the National Diabetes Prevention Program at the CDC as well as funding for the NIDDK at the NIH. Our efforts are focused on increased funding for both of these agencies. Additionally, the Association opposes the inclusion of language that would weaken the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
H.R. 3762, Restoring Americans Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act. Oppose legislation using budget reconciliation to repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund and the Affordable Care Acts individual and employer mandates among other provisions.
H.R. 2029, the House Military Construction, Veteran Affairs and Other Related Agencies Appropriations for FY2016. Attempt to include language supporting diabetes research in the Office of Research and Development.
S. 1558, the Senate Department of Defense Appropriations Act for FY2016: Support inclusion of diabetes as a disease eligible for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.
H.R. 22, the FAST Act. Support provisions that provide funding to local transportation priorities including walking, biking, and Safe Routes to School projects.
H.R. 3049, the House Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill. The Association opposes the inclusion of language that would weaken the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and language that would weaken or provide waivers for school nutrition programs, including school lunch standards. The Association also supports funding of the Healthy Food Financing Initiative.
S. 1800, the Senate Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill. The Association opposes the inclusion of language that would weaken the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and language that would weaken or provide waivers for school nutrition programs, including school lunch standards. The Association also supports funding of the Healthy Food Financing Initiative.
H.R. 3660, the Preventive Health Savings Act. Support entire bill; amends the Congressional Budget Act of 1974 respecting the scoring of preventive health savings.
Issues worked on not yet reflected in legislation:

Prevention and Public Health Fund. The Association supports the Prevention and Public Health Fund established by the ACA and opposes any legislative efforts to weaken and or cut the fund, including but not limited to opposing budget reconciliation legislation.

S. 804/H.R. 1427, the Medicare CGM Access Act. Support entire bill; provides Medicare coverage for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices to qualified individuals.

S. 613/H.R. 1728, the Summer Meals Act. Support entire bill; amends the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act to expand summer food service program for children.
H.R. 1061/S. 569, the Farm to School Act of 2015. Support entire bill; reauthorizes and expands the Farm to School Program to include preschools, summer food service sites, after school programs, and tribal schools.
H.R. 2627, the Salad Bars in Schools Expansion Act. Support entire bill; creates a grant program under USDA to help schools purchase the equipment needed to set up a salad bar.
H.R. 4209, the Minority Diabetes Initiative Act. Support entire bill; provides grants for the treatment of diabetes in minority communities.
H.R. 1686, the Preventing Diabetes in Medicare Act of 2015. Support entire bill; extends Medicare coverage of medical nutrition therapy services to people with prediabetes and other risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes.
H.R. 2017/S. 2217, the Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act of 2015. Oppose entire bill; revises the nutritional information that restaurants and retail food establishments must disclose.
Issues worked on not yet reflected in legislation:
Child Nutrition Reauthorization. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act expired September 30, 2015. The Association supports renewal of the child nutrition programs governed by this legislation and will work to protect updated nutrition standards.
Prevention and Public Health Fund. The Association supports the Prevention and Public Health Fund established by the ACA and opposes any legislative efforts to weaken and or cut the fund, including but not limited to opposing budget reconciliation legislation.
Senate Innovation bill. The Association has not taken a position on the forthcoming Senate companion bill to the House 21st Century Cures Act, but is interested in provisions related to medical research.
