Cytology Proficiency Testing- Support legislation that would modernize and improve an outdated federal proficiency test required by pathologists who examine Pap test to screen for cervical cancer. (H.R. 1237 and S 2510 both named The Cytology Proficiency Improvement Act of 2007); Regulation of Genetic Testing- The CAP supports continued regulation of genetic testing through existing CLIA law (S. 976, Genomics and Personalized Medicine Act of 2007 and S. 736 the Laboratory Test Improvement Act);
Genetic Discrimination- Support legislation banning employers from discrimination based on genetic information. (H.R. 483 and S. 358, both titled the Genetic Information Non Discrimination Act of 2007 and signed into law in spring 2008)
Gene Patents- Support legislation that prohibits gene patents or exempts lab based personnel from patent violations when performing laboratory developed tests. (H.R. 977, the Genomic Research and Accessibility Act)

independent laboratories to bill Medicare directly for certain physician pathology services. (H.R. 6331 Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, H.R. 1105 and S. 458 the Physician Pathology Services Continuity Act of 2007)
Competitive Bidding Demonstration Project- Support legislation that would repeal the Medicare Laboratory Competitive Bidding Demonstration project for diagnostic laboratory services. Relative Value Update Reform- Oppose efforts to replace the current relative value review process with a federal advisory committee.
Pay for Performance/Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI)- Ensure pathologists continue to have the option to participate in PQRI program and monitor for any potential harm.
