The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) lobbied in support of the Rehabilitation for Multiemployer Pensions Act (H.R. 397) and its Senate companion, the to-be-introduced Butch Lewis Act. The Rehabilitation for Multiemployer Pensions Act would provide long-term, low-interest loans to distressed multiemployer defined pension plans. The intended effect of this legislation is to protect the defined pensions of over one million retirees and active workers in the United States and maintaining the long-term solvency of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). The IBEW is the sponsor of the second largest multiemployer defined benefit pension plan in the United States, the National Electrical Benefit Fund.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) lobbied in support of the Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act (H.R. 748/S. 684), legislation that would repeal the 40 percent excise tax on employer-sponsored health insurances plans, commonly known as the Cadillac Tax. Hundreds of thousands of IBEW members are being negatively impacted by the 40 percent excise tax, which has resulted in our workers being forced to accept lower wages and/or higher health care premiums and deductibles due to the excise tax.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers supports the passage and enactment of the Utilizing Significant Emissions with Innovative Technologies (USE IT) Act (H.R. 1166/S. 383). The USE IT Act would authorize several initiatives under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to support the development of carbon capture utilization and sequestration (CCUS), technology that would help the United States reach its emissions goals under the Paris Climate Agreement by capturing carbon from the source of emissions or directly from the air and be stored underground or utilized for other purposes. CCUS technology is intended to support industries that employ thousands of IBEW workers, including coal and natural gas electrical generation.
The IBEW also lobbied on the resolution Recognizing the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal (H.Res. 109/S.Res. 59), a congressional resolution that calls for the creation of a Green New Deal with the goals of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, establishing millions of high-wage jobs and ensuring economic security for all, investing in infrastructure and industry, and promoting justice and equality.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) lobbied in support of a broad based, aggressive investment strategy to meet the infrastructure needs of the United States and create jobs for Americans across the country.
Key features that the IBEW supports in infrastructure legislation include the application of the Davis-Bacon Act on federally-supported construction projects, increase federal investment to modernization the national electric grid, and addressing the funding mechanism of the Highway Trust Fund to achieve long-term stability.
