Discussed the position of the Bipartisan Policy Center's Governors' Council on how to improve the Medicaid waiver process and recently developed templates for states to use in their applications. Discussed the Health Projects Health IT report, "Transforming Healthcare: The Role of Health IT", and its recommendations. Discussed delivery system reform, health insurance exchanges; rural access to care; cost containment and premium support; health workforce supply and demand.

Met with staff on the National Defense Authorization Act and worked to get BPC provisions incorporated into the Iran NDAA (specifically augmenting 5th fleet presence and prepositioning military supplies in the Persian Gulf). Met with key staff about legislation encouraging U.S.-Israel cooperation (S2165). Met with various staff to gage their thoughts on PNTR and discuss the BPC report on Russia relations.
Met with staff to discuss Iran nuclear development and sanctions and inform them about a series of white papers from the BPC foreign policy team on thwarting Iran's enrichment program: "Principles for Negotiating With Iran"; "Establishing a Credible Threat Against Irans Nuclear Program"; "Assessing the Effectiveness of Sanctions on Iran: A Call for Independent Review".

Met to discuss the electric grid work the BPC is working on in 2012 including: reliability improvement and incentives for all cleaner energy sources; the need for a continued government role in and funding for energy innovation.
Discussed the BPC Energy Board and the work it is doing in 2012 including diversifying resources, energy efficiency and government accountability. Disscussed the natural gas supply and demand work, which includes modeling; the nuclear events and work, which includes safety, management and disposal of spent nuclear fuel; the need for a strong nuclear energy sector; the electric grid work including reliability improvement and incentives for all cleaner energy sources and; the energy innovation work including the need for a continued government role and funding. Met to discuss the BPC Shale Gas Report, "Shale Gas: New Opportunities, New Challenges" and provide a background on shale gas; the role of the federal government in and funding for energy innovation.

Discussed the provisions in law of the Budget Control Act and the sequester and basic budgetary assumptions that would be applied when implementing the sequester. Discussed the BPC's Task Force on Defense Budget and Strategy's report and the sequesters impact on national security and the economy and recommendations to avoid the sequesters cuts and replace them with a larger debt reduction agreement.
Discussed the BPCs Debt Reduction Task Force led by Sen. Domenici and Dr. Rivlin and its recommendations on the national debt.
