-Responded to a request from a member of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding states use of provider taxes to fund the state share of their Medicaid programs. The request related to the Better Care Reconciliation Act.
-Corresponded with members of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding Missouris use of provider taxes to fund the state share of its Medicaid spending and the implications for Missouri of the Better Care Reconciliation Acts proposed restrictions on states capacity to use provider taxes.
-Corresponded with the Senate members of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding the Missouri Hospital Associations assessment of and stance on the pending Better Care Reconciliation Act legislation.
-Distributed to the Missouri congressional delegation a policy brief prepared by the Missouri Hospital Association regarding the potential implications of the American Health Care Act as passed by the House of Representatives on coverage of Missourians with preexisting conditions.
-Corresponded with members of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding the potential implications of the American Health Care Act as passed by the House of Representatives.
-Distributed to the Missouri congressional delegation a new publication of the Missouri Hospital Association on the incidence, prevention and treatment of opioid use disorder to support congressional consideration of expected legislation on this topic.
-Invited a member of the Missouri congressional delegation to discuss Missouri hospital priorities for Senate revisions to the American Health Care Act.
-Distributed to the Missouri congressional delegation an infographic prepared by the Missouri Hospital Association regarding the legislations inequitable distribution of federal Medicaid funds to states that expanded eligibility for Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and states that did not. The infographic reflects the version of the American Health Care Act passed by the House of Representatives.
-Provided information to support discussions with selected members of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding financial challenges confronting a Missouri hospital.
-Distributed to the Missouri congressional delegation a policy brief prepared by the Missouri Hospital Association regarding the legislations inequitable distribution of federal Medicaid funds to states that expanded eligibility for Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and states that did not.
-Responded to a request from a new staffer for a member from the Missouri congressional delegation for a list of Missouri hospitals in the congressional district.
-Corresponded with a staffer for a member of the Missouri congressional delegation who was leaving congressional employment.
-Sent a letter to a member of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding potential changes to the federal H1-B skilled worker visa program.
-Responded to a solicitation of comments and recommendations regarding the American Health Care Act by U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch in his role as chair of the Senate Finance committee. The Missouri Hospital Associations response was distributed to the Senate members of the Missouri congressional delegation.
-Joined other Missouri provider organizations in sending a letter to a member of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding the need for a coalition of states that did not expand eligibility for Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2018, and the legislators who represent them, to promote equity in the funding provided to states under the American Health Care Act
-Responded to a query from the member of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding county data on enrollment in the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services health insurance marketplace program created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.
-In response to a request, provided a member of the Missouri congressional delegation information comparing Missouris urban and rural hospitals on various metrics.
-Provided information to a member of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding the efforts of the Missouri Hospital Association and other state hospital associations to respond to new requirements of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services and its Medicare fiscal intermediaries for the accreditation of sleep disorder treatment services.
-Discussed materials for upcoming congressional advocacy visits by the Missouri Hospital Association with staff of members of the Missouri congressional delegation.
-Coordinated the logistics of congressional advocacy visits and a consolidated staff briefing on May 9, 2017 in Washington, DC.
-During Washington, DC advocacy visits and a consolidated staff briefing, provided the Missouri congressional delegation with information regarding Medicare uncompensated care payments and the proposed use of Worksheet S-10 in distributing Medicare Disproportionate Share Hospital payments, Medicare sleep disorder treatment accreditation standards, repeal of section 3141 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, the need for interstate equity in distributing funds under the pending American Health Care Act, Missouri enrollment in and premiums of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services marketplace coverage program created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, behavioral health issues in Missouri, Missouri rural hospital characteristics and trends, and trends regarding Missouris health practitioner workforce.
-Distributed comments to the members of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding the American Health Care Act and the proposed MacArthur amendment to that legislation.
-Provided information to and discussed several pending advocacy issues with selected members of the Missouri congressional delegation. The issues included adoption of Worksheet S-10 in the formula for distributing Medicare Disproportionate Share Hospital payments, regulatory standards for accreditation of sleep disorder treatment services in the Medicare program, repeal of section 3141 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and litigation filed by the Missouri Hospital Association challenging the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services implementation of audits of Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital payments.
-Responded to a query from a member of the Missouri congressional delegation regarding the implications for Missouri hospitals of reauthorizing the Medicare Dependent Hospital and low-volume hospital payment adjustments that are slated to lapse under current federal statute.
