NCC sent a letter to USTR (Ambassador Susan Schwab) concerning WTO compliance panel ruling in Brazil case against US cotton program. The letter sought an appeal of the decision.
NCC leaders met via conference call with Chief U.S. Agricultural negotiator and discussed progress in WTO Doha Round trade
NCC made contacts on Cotton Belt Senators urging prompt passage of the Andean Trade Preference Act (H.R. 1830).
NCC submitted comments to EPAs Scientific Advisory Panel, formed under FIFRA, in support of the insecticide carbofuran.
NCC joined other agricultural groups in a letter to the chairmen and ranking members of House and Senate agricultural committees urging immediate initiation of a farm bill conference and voicing concern about framework proposal (H.R. 2419).
NCC leaders met with USDA Secretary Ed Schafer to discuss industry priorities, including those for farm legislation and agricultural research.
At the invitation of the NCC, Senator Blanche Lincoln addressed cotton industry leadership and conducted separate meeting with constituents.
NCC submitted comments to EPA supporting the use of endosulfan for control of cotton insect pests.
NCC joined other organizations on a letter to the Senate concerning legislation directing CPSC to study regulations for formaldehyde in textiles (S. 2663).
NCC sent a letter to CFTC regarding cotton market volatility with respect to the Number 2 cotton contract.
NCC sent an action alert to cotton industry leaders seeking Congressional contacts during the Easter recess to request prompt action on farm bill legislation (H.R. 2419).
As a member of an agricultural coalition, the NCC asked USDA to continue support for aflatoxin research.
NCC met with staff of House and Senate agriculture committees regarding various aspects of the cotton title of H.R. 2419, farm program authorization.
