H.R.2838 - "Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2011" - To authorize appropriations for the Coast Guard for fiscal years 2012 through 2015. Title VI--Miscellaneous, Sec.602. Report on Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Medical Evaluation Program. Met with Members and staff on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee; House Homeland Security Committee, and Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation committee regarding this bill.
S.1665 - "Coast Guard Authorization Act for Fiscal Years 2012 and 2013" - A bill to authorize appropriations for the Coast Guard for fiscal years 2012 and 2013, and for other purposes. Title II--Organization, Sec. 202. Clarification of Coast Guard Ice Operations Mission. Lobbied members and staff of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
S.1430 - "Maritime Administration Authorization Act of 2012" - A bill to authorize certain maritime programs of the Department of Transportation, and for other purposes. All sections. Lobbied members and staff of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation committee.
H.R. 3321 - "America's Cup Act of 2011" - To facilitate the hosting in the United States of the 34th America's Cup by authorizing certain eligible vessels to participate in activities related to the competition, and for other purposes. Sec. 7. Waivers. Lobbied members and staff of the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee and Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation committee.
H.R.104 - "Realize America's Maritime Promise (RAMP) Act" - A bill to ensure that amounts credited to the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund are used for harbor maintenance. Section 2. Lobbied members and staff of the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee regarding cosponsoring this bill.
H.R.23 - "Belated Thank You to the Merchant Mariners of World War II Act of 2011" - A bill to amend Title 38, United States Code, to direct the secretary of Veterans Affairs to establish the Merchant Mariner Equity Compensation Fund to provide benefits to certain individuals who served in the United States merchant marine (including the Army Transport Service and the Naval Transport Service) during World War II. Section. 2. Payments to Individuals who served during World War II in the United States Merchant Marine, and Sec. 533. Merchant Mariner Equity Compensation Fund. Lobbied House Veterans' Affairs Committee staff members regarding cosponsoring this legislation.
H.R. 1533 - "Short Sea Shipping Act of 2011" - A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to exempt certain shipping from the harbor maintenance tax. Section 2. Exemption of certain commercial cargo from the harbor maintenance tax. Lobbied members and staff of the House Committee on Ways and Means regarding cosponsoring this bill.
H.R. 3109 - "Keep America's Waterfronts Working Act of 2011": To amend the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 to require establishment of a Working Waterfront Grant Program, and for other purposes. Research Only.
Attended a Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment hearing: "The Economic Importance of Seaports: Is the United States Prepared for 21st Century Trade Realities."
Met with maritime industry coalitions on numerous occasions regarding the issues of Cargo Preference requirements, Piracy, P.L.480 (Food for Peace Program), Harbor Maintenance Tax, and Jones Act waivers. These meetings prompted break-out meetings to various House and Senate members and their staff on the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee, House Agriculture committee, House Foreign Affairs committee, Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry committee, Senate Appropriations committee and the Senate Foreign Relations committee.
Met with the Maritime Administration (MARAD) and Department of Transportation (DOT) staff members on various issues concerning the membership of American Maritime Officers, like, Cargo Preference, P.L.-480 Program, Title XI (Shipbuilding Loan Guarantees), Ship disposal and the Maritime Security Program.
Attended a MARAD Public Meeting held at the DOT Conference Center regarding Cargo Preference and other issues.
Met with House Transportation and Infrastructure committee and Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation committee staff members regarding the S.S. BADGER vessel.
Met with the United States Coast Guard on various issues concerning the membership of American Maritime Officers, mariner licensing and medical documentation, mariner and vessel protection, piracy and Great Lakes ice-breaking.
Met with the Department of Homeland Security on issues that effect our membership due to the implementation of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) cards.
