Contacted and met with Representatives, Senators, and legislative staff in support of funding for research and higher education/student financial aid programs in FY 2017. Encouraged timely passage of appropriations legislation, and requested support for FY 2017 appropriations bills. Specific legislation includes:

Met with and contacted Representatives and Senators and staff to advocate for federal graduate financial aid programs, both as part of the annual appropriations process (see Budget and Appropriations section), and as part of the Higher Education Act Reauthorization (no bill number). Specific programs include Stafford subsidized loan, Perkins loan, public service loan forgiveness, income-based repayment.
Met with Senate staff to discuss the Pell Grant program as it relates to prison education, and to request co-sponsorship of S.3122.
