CCIM Institute, along with the National Catastrophe Policyholders Coalition, submitted a letter to House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank and Congressman Spencer Bachus, urging swift consideration of a 5-year reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program. The letter requested specific consideration be given to the following provisions: Completion of 100 year floodplain maps, Increased policy limits, reform of premium rate structure, and Business interruption insurance.

CCIM Insitute submitted a letter to all members of Congress, expressing frustration with Congress' May 31, 2010 failure to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), potentially damaging the residential and commercial real estate markets by undermining buyer confidence in NFIP. In addition, the letter urged Congressional members to immediately reauthorize the program through a long-term, stand-alone extension.

Bernanke, urging them to take specific actions to shore up commercial real estate and avoid another economic collapse. The letter urged consideration of loan extensions for performing debts, currently prohibited by regulatory concerns.

CCIM Insitute initiated two Calls to Action for all members to phone their federal lawmakers, urging them to vote against a proposal within the Tax Extenders Package to change the tax treatment of carried interest in real estate partnerships from capital gains to ordinary income. Changing the tax treatment of carried interest would have resulted in changing the tax rate from 15% to as high as 39.5%. This change would have further damaged an already fragile commercial real estate industry.
