Lobbied to obtain support/cosponsors for the 112th Congress version of the Restoring Protection to Victims of Persecution Act; (not yet introduced) To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate the 1-year deadline for application for asylum in the United States.
Submitted recommendations for the 112th Congress version of the Refugee Protection Act (not yet introduced); A bill to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to reaffirm the United States' historic commitment to protecting refugees who are fleeing persecution or torture.
Advocated for the introduction of a House Refugee Protection Act of 2011 and submitted recommendations for specific legislative language and issues to address.
Advocated for increasing appropriations for the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) within the Department of Justice for immigration courts and legal orientation programs.
Advocated for reforms of the current asylum system related to detention, the one year filing deadline, and terrorism related grounds of inadmissibility.
Advocated for a set of reforms in the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), including the need for an expedited resettlement program for refugees who face imminent risks, reforms to interagency security check process to enable more timely and effective processing of background checks, and the need for institutionalization due process safeguards in resettlement adjudications.

S.235 - A bill to provide personal jurisdiction in causes of action against contractors of the United States performing contracts abroad with respect to members of the Armed Forces, civilian employees of the United States, and United States citizen employees of companies performing work for the United States in connection with contractor activities, and for other purposes.
S.548 - A bill to provide for the effective interrogation of unprivileged enemy belligerents and for other purposes.
S.551 - A bill to improve procedures for the detention and review of status of detainees of the United States in connection with the continuing armed conflict with al Qaeda, the Taliban, and affiliated groups.
S.553 - A bill to provide for the review of challenges to the detention of unprivileged enemy belligerents and for other purposes.
S.554 - A bill to prohibit the use of Department of Justice funds for the prosecution in Article III courts of the United States of individuals involved in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
