H.R. 2855 "Drug Overdose Reduction Act". Advocated passage of legislation that would engage the CDC and the National Institute on Drug Abuse to reduce deaths from drug abuse through public health interventions. Issue is of concern to UMDNJ as a major health provider in the state, and as the parent organization to the NJ Poison Information and Education System.

Advocated a proposal for a Stratford Campus Inter-Professional Education Facility for funding support through the House FY 2010 Transportation/HUD Appropriations Bill, which makes appropriations for the Department of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2009. The Department of HUD has a specific account devoted to economic development initiatives (EDI), which we advocated as an appropriate vehicle to support the Stratford education facility.

Supported H.R. 2251/S. 973 "Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act", that would expand the number of Medicare-supported physician training positions and provide preferences for programs that train primary care physicians and general surgeons. Supported higher funding levels for Titles VII and VII health professions education programs within
the FY 2010 Labor/HHS/Education appropriations bills.

Advocated funding support for UMDNJ projects (NJDS clinics renovations; Chandler Health Center capital improvements; University Hospital electronic health records initiative; Stratford campus teaching center; UMDNJ Autism Center; and academic Clinical Research Organization) within the FY 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bills.
Advocated increased appropriatins for the NIH, Ryan White AIDS Care Act, and CDC under the FY 2010 Labor/HHS and Education Appropriations Bill.
Advocated that various workforce development issues affecting the supply of health professions, including the funding of Graduate Medical Education, and Title VII and Title VIII, (all critical issues to UMDNJ's education mission) be addressed within the Health Reform legislation before House and Senate committees.
Advocated that certain issues important for dental clinics (including those operated by UMDNJ-NJDS) to be able to receive Health Information Technology bonus payments via the Medicaid program, as provided in H.R. 1, be addressed by the National Coordinator's Office for HIT, and the policy and standards committees that are developing implementing regulations.
Advocated that health reform legislation before the House and Senate contain adequate reimbursement funding for Medicare and Medicaid DSH programs, and provide for Coordinated Care proposals to advance integrated delivery systems. Both the DSH program, and the coordinated care proposals are critical to advancing UMDNJ-Univeristy Hospital's mission.
Advocated congressional support for when the Cancer Institute of New Jersey applies for re-designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center under the National Institutes of Health.
Supported the passage of H.R. 1548 which establishes a regulatory approval process for biologics.
