The IBEW urged Congress to oppose efforts by pay television providers (cable and satellite) to hamstring broadcasters ability to negotiate retransmission consent agreements. Legislative efforts that undermine broadcasters capability to bargain these agreements would have a negative impact on the livelihoods of IBEW members in the broadcasting industry.

The IBEW is opposed to the recommendation of the U.S. Congress Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to phase-out the healthcare tax exclusion. IBEW lobbied for help with Taft Hartley Heathcare trust's problems in rule making process

The IBEW urged the Department of Energy to approve a Non-Free Trade Agreement (NFTA) export license (FE Docket No. 12-32-LNG) for Jordan Cove Energy Project. If approved, Jordan Cove plans to construct a $5.7 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility near Coos Bay, OR. Building this facility will create an average of 900 construction jobs over 42 months with permanent employment expected to be around 150 workers.

The IBEW lobbied Congress to express our displeasure with the Obama Administrations decision to include Japan in negotiations regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership Free Trade Agreement (TPP-FTA). In addition, we urged Congress to oppose a renewal of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), also known as fast track.

The IBEW lobbied Congress in support of a plan, developed by the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans (NCCMP), which would improve and strengthen the multiemployer defined benefit pension plan system. The plan, though not yet developed as formal legislation, consists of proposals to strengthen the current system, financial measures for deeply troubled plans, and the creation of new structures to foster innovative plan designs.

The IBEW urged Congress to reject efforts that would impair the ability of the United States to conclude bilateral agreements for the peaceful use of atomic energy. Section 123 agreements, named for the relevant section of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, are a prerequisite for the export of commercial nuclear reactors and/or their components. Unfortunately, some in Congress are proposing to strengthen the agreements thereby making it more difficult to export U.S.-manufactured nuclear products.

The IBEW urged Congress to continue the federally-funded Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program which was due to expire on December 31, 2013. Included in the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (H.R. 8) is a one year extension of the EUC program. H.R. 8 also provides extended unemployment benefits for those covered under the Railroad Unemployment Insurance Act.

The IBEW lobbied Congress and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in opposition to language contained in President Obamas proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 budget that could lead to privatization of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). TVA is a very successful New Deal program that has brought economic development, flood control, and electricity to the Tennessee Valley. Privatization would reduce electrical reliability and increase costs for consumers.

As the nation continues to recover from the worst recession since the Great Depression, constructing the Keystone XL Pipeline will help put Americans back-to-work and have further ripple effects throughout the economy.

IBEW lobbied two congressional offices for changes to two different bills, one senate bill S.2234 and one draft house bill. Both bills deal with incentives for young people or minorities entering apprenticeship and training programs in the construction industry. Apprenticeship programs registered with the Office of Apprenticeship of the Employment and Training Administration U.S. Department of Labor.

IBEW lobbied members of the House of Representatives to join Congressman Barrows letter to Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Gina McCarthy and Secretary John McHugh Department of the Army. The Letter outlined concerns with expanding the Clean Air Act authority and making changes to the waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) definition.

IBEW continued to participate in educational meetings with Congressional staff to inform them about the Davis-Bacon Act of 1931, legislation that requires workers employed on construction projects funded by the federal government be paid wages no less than what are prevailing in the geographic area.
The Arnold Community Council (ACC) a local advocacy group for Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee. This group advocates for the exemption of Arnold Air Force base from several U.S. laws including the Davis Bacon Act. IBEW lobbied against the Arnold community Councils proposal.
