Discussed BPCs Health Innovation Initiatives February 2013 report, "An Oversight Framework for Assuring Patient Safety in Health Information Technology", focused on developing a risk-based regulatory framework pertaining to health IT that promotes innovation, protects patient safety, and avoids regulatory duplication. Discussed BPCs Governors Council Medicaid report, Making Federalism Work: The Governors Council Medicaid Recommendations. Recommendations highlighted the dual eligible population,
eligibility and benefits, Medicaid expansion, and leveraging existing funding for infrastructure development and investment in delivery system and payment reform.

Discussed Iran nuclear development and sanctions and informed congressional staff about a series of white papers from the BPC foreign policy team on thwarting Iran's enrichment program: "Principles for Negotiating With Iran"; "Establishing a Credible Threat Against Irans Nuclear Program"; and "Assessing the Effectiveness of Sanctions on Iran: A Call for Independent Review". Discussed BPC's paper, The Price of Inaction, dealing with the scenarios that could result if Iran is allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

Discussed the release of the Strategic Energy Policy Initiative Americas Energy Resurgence: Sustaining Success, Confronting Challenges report, including recommendations on: pursuing a diverse portfolio of energy resources, improving energy productivity and efficiency, accelerating energy innovation, reforming federal interventions, including energy tax expenditures in energy markets, and revising the executive branch for government
accountability in the national energy policy. Discussed the Electric Grid Initiatives released Policies for a Modern and Reliable U.S. Electric Grid report including recommendations on: electric system reliability improvement, transmission and incentives for all energy sources. Discussed federal energy innovation funding and America Competes reauthorization, including how ARPA-E will be handled in the reauthorization.

Discussed and introduced the Bipartisan Policy Center Housing Commissions recommendations in its 2013 report, Housing Americas Future: New Directions for National Policy. Recommendations focus on new system of housing finance, improved approach to the delivery of federal rental assistance, rural housing, and coordination of housing priorities to allow for aging in place.

Discussed the need for debt reduction and possible revenue and spending options to reduce the federal debt; conducted educational briefings on the federal debt ceiling, including the timing by which the debt ceiling would be hit and extraordinary measures the Dept. of Treasury may take to extend the timeframe; discussed the Budget Control Act and provided information on how the sequester works and its impact on federal spending. Provided a comparison of the House and Senate Budgets, and briefed staffers on the major
differences. Provided background information on the process BPC followed to achieve comprehensive tax reform as well as suggestions of certain policies that tax working groups should cover.
