Advocated the enactment of higher FY 2011 appropriation levels for the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Services Administration, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as they are important sources of federal support forUMDN
The UMDNJ Office of Government Affairs and Washington Strategic Consulting met with the Deans and other senior University administrators regarding the development of UMDNJ's FY 2012 Federal Agenda to be submitted to the NJ Congressional Delegation next year.

Chandler Health Center Capital Repairs; NJ Medical School Addressing the Disparity in Diagnosis of Preschool Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders; the School of Health Related Professions Allied Health Interventions to Address Co-Morbid Medical Disorders Among Persons with Serious Mental Illness; and RWJ Medical School Human Simulation Center) be included within the FY 2011 Labor, Health and Human Services
Appropriations Bill.
The Acting President and CEO of UMDNJ-University Hospital, the Acting Dean of the UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and UMDNJ Office of Government Affairs met with the Deputy Principal Administrator and Chief of Staff for CMS, and the Executive Director of the Dept. of Health and Human Services Region II, regarding the importance of federal safety-net programs like DSH as health care reform is transitioned and implemented, and the challenges hospitals and academic health centers face in implementing "meaningful use" standards to be eligible for health information technology incentive payments.
Worked with Senator Lautenberg's office to secure a letter from the Senator to Gene Dodaro, Acting Comptroller General of the United States, supporting the application of Dr. William F. Owen, Jr., UMDNJ president, to become a member of the National Health Care Workforce Commission.

Secured a letter from Congressman Donald Payne to the CMS Acting Administrator, requesting an update on a
UMDNJ-University Hospital Medicare cost appeal issue.
Advocated for passage of H.R. 4213 that would extend enhanced federal Medicaid funding for states (FMAP) beyond the current 12/31/10 expiration date.
UMDNJ-University Hospital, UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School executive leaders and office of Government Affairs
met with CMS principal deputy administrator, and the executive director for the DHHS Region II regarding the importance of federal safety net programs as healthcare reform is implemented, and the challenges hospitals and academic health centers face in meeting "meaningful use" standards to become eligible for HIT Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments.
UMDNJ-Univesity Hospital acting president and CEO, and UMDNJ Office of Government Affairs met with Congressman Donald Payne regarding implementation challenges facing University Hospital regarding the transitioning of healthcare reform, and the implementation of electronic medical records technology.
