Lobbied GSA and EPA representatives to issue guidance on sustainable purchasing that was studied all last year and is needed by federal procurement personnel in order to know which standards and ecolabels are the best to use when making purchases.
Re-engaged with founders of the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council as a Strategic Partner. The SPLC is designed to be the credible body composed of diverse stakeholders that helps sort out the "green purchasing" picture for the private sector as well as government.
Worked with the Product Category Rules (PCR) Guidance Advisory Committee on standardizing how such rules are developed.

Lobbied CPSC and Members of Congress against requiring flammability tests that would force manufacturers to use hazardous flame retardants. Expressed support for the direction California is going with changes that guard against the health and environmental impacts from such fire retardants.
Worked with EPEAT Program coordinators to share BIFMA's experiences working with NSF International on development of the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard.

Held a Chemicals of Concern Summit at the end of April with experts from many areas including representatives from the EPA's Design for the Environment program. The purpose of the Summit was to secure the most state of the art and agreed upon approaches to addressing "chemicals of concern" within the industry.

BIFMA is watching a case of possible trade retaliation against the U.S. for requiring product "country of origin" labels. It involves the USDA but BIFMA has only reached out so far to Sen. Debbie Stabenow, chairperson of the Agriculture Committee to determine what can be done.
