Urged members of Congress to send another letter to the French Ambassador to the U.S., expressing concern about current threats to religious freedom in France. The French Ambassador admits that "movements and practices" are being monitored and data on more than 200 have been updated and referred. This system of reference" will not be published, but it will be available to professionals such as judges, attorneys and doctors. This will inevitably impose arbitrary restrictions on an individual's right to freedom of religion.

Worked with other members of an informal coalition of religious organizations to lobby for legislation to extend the special immigrant nonminister religious worker program beyond September 30, 2009. An amendment to extend the program for three years was successfully added to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations bill that passed in the Senate. Since the House bill did not contain this same extension, we urged members of the conference committee to include it in the final conference report it
would send to the House and Senate floors for final votes on passage.

Worked with other members of an informal working group of faith-based and advocacy organizations to urge Senators to provide funding for the Second Chance Act of 2007 at the same level approved by the House. The House passed a Justice appropriations bill that provides $100 million for Second Chance Act programs in Fiscal Year 2010, and we urged the Senate to provide the same level of funding in the final Justice appropriations bill it passes.
Worked with other members of an informal working group to lobby for passage of S. 714, the National Criminal Justice Commission Act of 2009. This is a bill to "establish the National Criminal Justice Commission."
