16. Specific lobbying issues
USMCA: NEFB strongly supports efforts to pass the updated NAFTA now called USMCA. While largely unchanged for agriculture, we continue to support tariff free access to Mexico and Canada for Nebraska agricultural products.
232 Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum: NEFB opposes the administrations actions to place tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. We oppose the tariffs as they have led to retaliatory tariffs being place on a number of agricultural products exported by Nebraska farmers and has led to increased uncertainty about the future of our existing and any new free trade agreements.
China: NEFB continues to urge Congress to push the administration to finalize a trade deal with the Chinese government. The current tariffs placed in Chinese goods by the US has led to retaliatory tariffs on many US Ag products.
New Market Growth (Japan and the EU): NEFB strongly supports efforts to sign new trade agreement with both Japan as well as the EU. Nebraska farmers are very reliant on trade and new market opportunities help provide Nebraska farmers and ranchers with increased profits which trickle down through the Nebraska economy.
