Expressed support for/encouraged Representatives, Senators, and legislative staff to support The Consolidated Appropriations Act for FY17. (HR 244, PL 115-31). Expressed opposition to a government shutdown at expiration of continuing resolution.
Expressed opposition to Representatives, Senators, and legislative staff to recommendations contained in the Office of Management and Budget's FY 2017 Reduction Options (no legislation introduced); encouraged Congress to enact omnibus spending bill without readjusting budget caps or making large in-year reductions to research and education programs.
Expressed opposition to Representatives, Senators, and legislative staff to budget cuts to research and education programs outlined in the Administration's budget request for FY 2018(no legislation introduced).
Met with Senators, Representatives, and legislative staff to express opposition to a proposal in the President's budget for the National Institutes of Health to cap the reimbursement for facilities and administrative (indirect costs) expenses at 10 percent. Sent a letter to the Secretary of HHS and the Director of OMB expressing this opposition.
Requested the Senators and Representatives to support an FY18 budget resolution with adjusted budget caps to prevent cuts or an across-the-board sequester to non-defense programs, including education and research, and to support defense basic research and medical research programs.
