Prepare materials and grassroots advocates for Congressional meetings and displays at the May 15, 2023 Medical Imaging Technology Showcase reception on Capitol Hill. Prepare biomedical researchers for Congressional meetings on May 15, 2023 concerning imaging research and NIH efforts. Engage NIBIB policy staff in regular conversations concerning attendance at May 15, 2023 Medical Imaging Technology Showcase and Research Roundtable discussions. Invite representatives from additional NIH institutes (NCI, NIAMS, Clinical Center, and NIDDK) to attend Showcase and conduct meetings on May 16 with early career researchers in imaging. 40 advocates conducted 64 Congressional meetings and attended the Showcase. Monitor Senate Labor Health and Human Services and Related Agencies hearing with NIH on May 4, 2023. Facilitate a conversation between Academy leadership and NIBIB Director Tromberg on May 11, 2023 to discuss biological mechanisms of socioradiogenomics.

Draft, complete, and final Outside Witness Testimony in support of FY2024 appropriations of at least $51 billion for the National Institutes of Health and at least $1.5 billion for the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health with the Senate Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Related Agencies. Draft and release a grassroots member action alert for Academy members to contact their elected officials regarding NIH funding recommendations as reflected above.
Join coalition meetings (Coalition for Health Funding, Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research, and NDD United) with Appropriations Committee members Moolenaar, Watson Coleman, and DeLauro regarding FY2024 NIH funding levels. Transmit Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research statement concerning budget caps to Reps. Eshoo, Moolenaar, Aderholt and Sen. Blumenthal.
Conduct Academy "hill day" on May 15, 2023 by preparing and overseeing 40 grassroots advocates from 20 states to have 64 meetings with House and Senate offices concerning NIH funding consistent with the aforementioned recommendation of at least $51 billion for FY2024. Conduct Medical Imaging Technology Showcase reception (widely attended event) on May 15, 2023 in Rayburn House Office Building to display advances in imaging research to Congressional offices who attend.
