Supported introduction of the Fair Elections Now Act, HR 1826 and S 752, providing for a voluntary system of financing congressional elections using a mix of small private donations and federal money. President testified before a joint hearing of the House Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on the Constitution and the Senate Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on the Constitution in support of S.J. Res. 7 and H.J. Res. 2 proposing a constitutional amendment to require that states hold elections to
fill Senate vacancies. Supported the House amendment to the Stimulus bill, (HR 1) that incorporated the Whistleblower Protection Act of 2007, protecting from retaliation, federal workers who expose waste, fraud and abuse in government, sponsored by Todd Plats and Chris Van Hollen. Supported passage of the DC Voting Rights Act (S 160) in the Senate. Submitted requested testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of a nonpartisan commission of inquiry to examine past policies of past administrations on security and executive power as a way to uncover any abuses. Supported Legislation in the Senate providing more stringent prosecution of public corruption cases, (S. 49). Supported the Senate Caging Prohibition Act of 2009, S 528, prohibiting state or local election officials from preventing an individual from registering or voting in an election for federal office if the sole bases for a challenge is evidence consisting of caging lists, unverified match list or the forclosure status of the individual's residence. Supported the Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act, HR 97, making it unlawful to give false election related information to prevent a person from exercising their right to vote.
